Principal Berretta

Welcome to the 2017– 2018 School Year!!
Welcome back our Principal, Mr. Berretta!

Our Principal

Mr. Berretta grew up in NE Philadelphia, attended Penn State University, and began his teaching career in Houston, TX, as a 2nd grade bilingual teacher. He spent 6 years in Houston teaching various grades from 2nd through 7th, spent a year teaching 7th grade in D.C., and then returned to his native Philadelphia as a 6th/7th grade teacher at Frederick Douglass in North Philadelphia. He spent three years working as a literacy director in a local charter school network before transitioning to school leadership. He earned his principal certification through the PhillyPLUS program, spending a year as a principal-intern at Andrew Jackson Elementary in South Philadelphia. He’s entering his second year as the proud principal of Ziegler Elementary. He loves blasting pop music when he opens the doors in the morning, as well as earning his 15,000 steps/day by walking the neighborhood at dismissal. He’s an avid runner, cyclist, swimmer, and dog dad. He and his fiance live in Southwest Philadelphia with their two dogs and cat (who rules the house).

Welcome back to the 2017-2018 school year. I look forward to meeting and greeting you all in just a few weeks on the first day of school, September 5, 2017.

All my best,

Robert A. Berretta
