From Our Principal

I am very excited to continue the great work at Ziegler Elementary.  I have been a part of the Ziegler community for 6 years and am committed to preparing our students for the next step in their educational journey with you as partners. This year we will also introduce our new Assistant Principal, Luke Zeller.  We are Ziegler Proud.

A little about me, I grew up in several places around the world. I was born in Germany, moved to Panama, and finally to North Carolina.  I graduated from Campbell University with my undergrad in Elementary Education, from there I went on to receive a masters in Elementary Education with a focus on Math Instruction and Curriculum Design. Finally, I earned my Educational Leadership Degree in Urban Communities while participating in two graduate programs.  As a member of PhillyPLUS, I have been able to connect my education and love of Philadelphia.  I have 16 years of experience ranging from teacher to Principal.  I was a Math and Science teacher in grades 3-6 for 11 years and a Technology teacher for 2 years.  I came to Ziegler and became the Dean of Students before becoming the Assistant Principal last year.  I am married to a Philly native and a mother of 3 sons, 21, 16, and 15.  I love playing most sports, watching the Eagles win, and reading.  I am honored to continue working at Ziegler with you.  Welcome back to the 2022-2023 school year. I look forward to meeting and greeting you all.  See you soon Zigtown!!!

All my best,

Nicole Patterson (Freeman)

From Our Assistant Principal

I am very excited to be joining Ziegler as assistant principal! I look forward to learning from and with you all about the community to help make Ziegler the BEST K-8 school in Philadelphia.

This will be my 14th year working in Philadelphia schools. I have been a teacher, an academic leader, a soccer coach, and an assistant principal in the district, and I am bringing all of my experiences, work ethic, and passion for education to Ziegler.

I love to travel and had experiences teaching in Sweden and South Korea before beginning my teaching career in Philadelphia. During my work as a teacher and leader in Philadelphia schools, I earned my Master’s Degree in Literacy Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and in the last three years, I earned my Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Temple University. This is also where I met my wife. We married in June of 2021 and are expecting our first child in November!

I believe that schools work best when we all work together and communicate. This means that communication between parents, guardians, and the school is critical so that we can collaborate in the best interests of our students. Parents and guardians are absolutely essential partners in the education of students, so your voices and perspectives matter, and I hope you feel welcome at the school.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to set up a time to meet or talk with me by emailing me at Thank you, and I look forward to getting to know you all soon!
