Principal’s Corner
Welcome to the 2023– 2024 School Year!!
Welcome to Our New Assistant Principal, Mrs. Shaw!
From Our Principal
Ziegler Community,
I am so happy to be returning to Ziegler for my second year as principal. We accomplished so much together last year and we want to continue that momentum. Last year, we started some great school beautification projects, including our new outdoor classroom. The “WORLD is YOURS” has been our guide for the new murals and paint schemes in our building. The first floor is Under the Sea and the second floor is “You Can Go Anywhere” featuring cities around the world. Our new playground equipment is scheduled to begin on October 9th, 2023. We can’t wait for you to come and see the improvements.
Most importantly, we have improved our student outcomes. We have more students reading and building fact fluency than ever before. Students are coming to school more frequently and our PBIS, Positive Behavior Intervention Supports, is blooming. This year we are focused on continuing that academic growth with your partnership. We will be pushing our students to new levels by exposing them to real-world experiences and problem-solving opportunities. We will continue to provide new learning opportunities for our community. Mrs. Yzzi will be teaching a culinary and textile course this year to all students. We will need your continued support in helping our students meet the goals you envisioned for them.
Finally, a little about me for those of you who are new to Ziegler. I have been at Ziegler for 8 years. Formerly the Dean of Students, Assistant Principal, and now the Principal. I have been in education for over 16 years in a variety of different states. I have a Master’s Degree from Campbell University in Administration, Elementary Education, and a Reading and Math Specialist certification. My husband and I have been together for 22 years and are proud parents of 3 sons. I am looking forward to making Ziegler the best school in Philadelphia.
See you soon!!!!
Nicole Patterson, Principal
From Our Assistant Principal
It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new Assistant Principal of William H. Ziegler Elementary School. I am honored to have the opportunity to help lead a school with such persevering students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a supportive school community.
As Assistant Principal, I plan to let love, kindness, and compassion be my guide in providing a safe and positive learning environment that is inclusive and equitable for all students. I believe “it takes a village” to ensure student success. Therefore, it is my goal to work diligently with our leadership team to leverage partnerships and foster positive relationships with students, parents, and teachers to maximize opportunities for our students to thrive.
On a personal note, I am a proud graduate of Clarion University (PennWest Clarion) where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and also a proud graduate of Cheyney University of Pennsylvania with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. This is my 20th year in education (9 of them here at Ziegler) where I have served in many roles that include K-6 teacher, Testing Coordinator, Dean of Students, and now as an administrator of our amazing school.
I am so grateful to continue our work in this journey to being a Blue Ribbon School
Go Eagles!
Mrs. Adell F. Shaw
Assistant Principal
